I think I've done everything I can for Match Game SF. There's a chance that some of the questions may overlap Westercon, because I can't remember exactly where we left off in San José, but the overlap, if it's there, is only one game. The prize packages are set up, and the announcer material is printed. The only problem is that we still don't have an announcer! I'm still trying to figure out how we're going to manage that one.

two thots (Ok, 3):
David Levine will be in town and he's pretty spiffy with a mic - as is Tom Whitmore (I've had Tom do masquerades for me). 3rd option, ask KPRoche who he's recommend - he's a little more current about who's active in fandom than I am ;>

What does the announcer need to do? I'm tied up Thursday, Friday nights with the London in 2014 stuff, but I might be able to offer my support if the accent won't be too confusing.

I can do a fair version of Terry Wogan who originally did the British version... but let me know.

I do not, however, do Paul O'Grady - that, I suspect, would be too much for an audience.

I've said more than once that if I ever lose the 100 pounds that would let me get back into the costume, we'll do a the late-night version of the show as Blankety Blank and instead of me channeling Gene Rayburn, I'll do the Fabulous Ms. Lily Savage. I expect a few people's minds to explode if it ever happens.

I found the photo, unfortunately, it's a small scan. Some day I will find the original and re-scan it at a higher resolution. That was indeed about 100 pounds ago. I still have the costume; I put it in my Fan Guest of Honor exhibit at the Seattle NASFiC.

The announcer is the person who says "Get Ready to Match the Stars!" and reads the names of the panelists at the start. The announcer also reads the commercials between games, and also announces the names of the contestants and reads out what the prizes are.

In practice, you sit at the Tech Desk next to Lisa and [livejournal.com profile] travelswithkuma and read the announcer copy (everything is all printed up and ready to go).

If you're available after the Hugo ceremony (scheduled start is Saturday 10 PM, and effectively we'd want you to hot-foot it to Sorrento 2-4 as soon as you can so we're ready to go), and you think you have that "game show announcer" voice, then you're hired.

Sure. Why not :)

Do I need to dress smart?

No, unless you were planning on doing so for the Hugo Awards anyway. I'll be in my suit because that's my Game Show Host costume, but everyone else is come-as-you-like.

As Kevin says below. You are my friend. :)

(fwiw, I'm the one who'll be actually handing out the prizes [so you don't have to], among other duties, and was a potential emergency holographic announcer)

We appear to be all set, especially because most of the Westercon finalists didn't win, so we can recycle things.

Do I need to do a quick write up for the Banty Hen Publishing Reviewer's Discs I gave you at Westercon?

and I have only the Pre-Hugos reception on my radar at this time if you need any help.

If you want us to say anything about them — we plan to give one to each main game winner — other than "a CD-ROM of fiction from Banty Hen Publishing," then yes.
