Then the guy who bought west lot tore out all of the trees and bushes, most of the rabbits disappeared. I was afraid they were all gone, but we do seem to get a few of them here.
We see bunnies around our house on and off--at least the ones who have eluded the various free-range cats, raccoons, coyotes etc.
My neighbor has a raised bed by their house in which she has garlic growing with a straw mulch on top. This evening she told me that she was startled to find a bunny in it and one of her boys used the hose to get it out. Then to her dismay, she discovered the nest with babies tucked away under the straw and doesn't know if the mother will return to them. I suggested calling our local humane society in the morning for advice.
Oh, how sad! I hope they were able to save the bunnies.
I've been hoping that maybe these rabbits are forming a new home in our field. I think most of the survivors of the West Lot clearance are now over across the railroad tracks, where there is space and few people bothering them.
